Prime Minister Paethongtarn’ discusses with executives of Surrey University to expand cooperation in education, pushing for exchanges of Thai students in potential fields.

Professor GQ Max Lu, President and Vice-Chancellor, University of Surrey, United Kingdom, paid a courtesy call on Ms. Paethongtarn Shinawatra, Prime Minister. After the meeting, Mr. Jirayu Huangsap, spokesman for the Prime Minister’s Office, revealed the gist of the discussion as follows:

The Prime Minister welcomed and was pleased to meet the executives of the University of Surrey, of which the Prime Minister is an alumnus, with a Master’s degree in International Hotel Management. The experience during his study at the University was an impressive time, both the atmosphere, the environment both inside and around the university, as well as fellow students. He hoped that the university would take good care of and support Thai students who went to study at the University of Surrey.

Professor Kaoqing Max Lu thanked the Prime Minister for th
e warm welcome and congratulated the Prime Minister on the occasion of assuming the position. As an alumnus of the university, he is also impressed by the opportunity to visit Bangkok, Thailand this time. The cooperation between the university and Thailand has been very successful. Last year, during the visit to Thailand, he signed a memorandum of understanding on academic cooperation with a university in Thailand.

Professor Gaoqing Max Lu also invited the Prime Minister to return to visit the university if he has the opportunity, to which the university is ready to welcome him.

On this occasion, both sides discussed the issue of cooperation in education. The Prime Minister wanted to push for opportunities for Thai students to exchange knowledge and experiences abroad. Many Thai students are also skilled in robotics and would like to cooperate with universities to exchange students during the summer break to study Deep Technology and AI. The universities are ready to cooperate. The number of Thai students s
tudying at the university has increased in many fields of study, including International Hotel Management and Hospitality and Tourism Management, which ranked 2nd in ShanghaiRanking’s Global Ranking of Academic Subjects 2023.

At the end, the Prime Minister expressed his delight that this afternoon the university executives will discuss cooperation with many relevant Thai agencies in various fields, including space, sustainability, tourism, and energy, which are important issues that Thailand places importance on, and the government supports universities to cooperate with Thai universities in exchanging knowledge, especially in semiconductors and renewable energy, which will help support the development of human potential and the Thai economy.-314-Thai News Agency
