Internal Affairs

Government House, The Prime Minister invited “Big Tai” – Acting Governor of the State Railway of Thailand – Deputy Permanent Secretary of Transport to discuss ways to solve the safety of tourists on trains after disbanding the railway police.

Prime Minister Settha Thavisin invited Pol. Gen. Kittirat Panphet, Deputy Commissioner-General of the Royal Thai Police, Mr. Jare Rungthanee, Acting Governor of the State Railway of Thailand, and relevant agencies to discuss studying regulations and finding solutions to tourist safety after the dissolution of the railway police. He said, ‘Last year, everyone must have heard the news about the dissolution of the railway police, which was a result of the National Police Act of 2022. As a result, in the past period, we did not have anyone to take care of passengers on the trains effectively. I think that this year and next year, the government will promote tourism to the greatest extent possible. Therefore, tourist safety in all dimensions is very important.

The urgent s
hort-term solution to this problem is to request support from the Central Investigation Bureau Police to perform this duty first, with the State Railway of Thailand providing the allowances. However, in the long term, we must systematically solve the problem. Today, I have invited the Deputy Minister of Transport, the Deputy Commissioner-General of the Royal Thai Police, the Acting Governor of the State Railway of Thailand, and the Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Transport to discuss and study the regulations and find a solution to this problem, so that our fellow citizens, including tourists, will be safe and confident in using the train service. Soon, a beautiful train tourist route will be opened.’
