The President of the National Assembly is satisfied with the overall discussion of the ASEAN Parliamentary-ASEAN Summit after Thailand’s proposal on solving drug problems was included in the statement. He emphasized that the executive branch must work closely with the parliament. Malaysia, the host country next year, promised to continue to develop the issue to see tangible results.

Mr. Van Muhammad Noor Matha, President of the House of Representatives and President of the National Assembly, mentioned about the discussion between ASEAN leaders and the delegation of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly during the 44th and 45th ASEAN Summits in Vientiane, Lao People’s Democratic Republic, from October 8-10 that he was satisfied with the overall picture of this meeting, which was beneficial in terms of both content and closer relations with ASEAN countries. Thailand’s proposal on solving the drug problem was included in the statement of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly presented at the ASEAN Summit, in
which ASEAN leaders saw the importance of the drug problem as a threat in all aspects, both in terms of society, unrest, and extending to illegal workers. Therefore, it is considered a point for cooperation in solving the problem throughout the system, including other proposals proposed by the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly, such as cooperation in solving environmental problems, dust, and flooding, in which all countries saw that it was a good proposal covering all dimensions of ASEAN development in all aspects.

While the Malaysian leader and Speaker of Parliament, who will host the ASEAN Summit and ASEAN Parliamentary Assembly next year, is ready to welcome all proposals to be further developed at the meeting in Malaysia next year.

“Both the Prime Minister and the Speaker of the House of Malaysia told the meeting that they are ready to accept all proposals from both ASEAN leaders and the ASEAN Council this time to continue in the meeting in Malaysia next year. They also invited ASEAN leaders and the Sp
eaker of the Council to join. In the meeting, Malaysia also emphasized the issue of world peace,” said Mr. Wan Muhammad Noor.

The Speaker of the House also said that the leaders of the 11 countries that attended the meeting agreed that the leaders of the countries and the executive branch must work closely with the parliament. The success of various works in ASEAN, if the parliament does not support the laws and resolutions, will not be successful because the legislature is the party that takes care of the laws that will support the resolutions of ASEAN. The legislature consists of MPs and the Senate, who are truly representatives of the people. Therefore, the meeting emphasized that the role of the parliament in driving ASEAN forward is very important.

The Speaker of the House of Representatives said that the Malaysian leader also informed the meeting that he would travel to meet with leaders of ASEAN countries, including Thailand, to invite all countries to see the importance and come to join the meeting
hosted by Malaysia.

While the Prime Minister of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic thanked AIPA for providing useful ideas for ASEAN and the ASEAN leaders will accept all suggestions to use in moving ASEAN forward together with the proposals at the ASEAN Summit and the ASEAN Parliamentary Assembly.
