Myanmar, Lao PDR, and Vietnam said that they have been discussing with embassies and other relevant agencies since last week to accelerate coordination with the Myanmar side regarding the flood situation in Thailand and Myanmar that are currently affected, as well as to discuss cooperation in expanding the water catchment area. According to the Prime Minister’s directive, the flood situation in Myanmar is currently very heavy due to storms and water flowing into the Salavin River from high places.

eas. He also stated that the water situation is a crisis for all countries in the Mekong River basin. Although the pipes were dredged and garbage was swept away before the rainy season, due to the situation of heavy rainfall, sudden flooding along the Sai River area, and there were also buildings encroaching on the Sai River from both the Thai and Myanmar sides in many areas, causing the width of the Sai River to narrow and become shallow, further exacerbating the drainage problem in the Sai River. Therefore, in the long run, He is also preparing to propose cooperation in water management through the Mekong-Lanchang MLC Cooperation Framework.
Mr. Marit also expressed his condolences to the families of the deceased and those affected by the floods in Thailand. Myanmar, Lao PDR, and Vietnam are ready to encourage the relevant officials. In order to help the victims and ask for the situation to be resolved to normal as soon as possible.
