“Thawee” opens a seminar on Thai products, aiming to develop the economy in the southern border provinces

Minister of Justice opens Thai product seminar, aiming for sustainable development of southern border economy, and promotes Thai product identity, combining innovation, pushing grassroots economy to international market.

Today (July 13, 2024) at 2:50 p.m., Pol. Col. Thawee Sodsong, Minister of Justice, presided over the opening ceremony of the academic seminar ‘Thai Products Aiming for Sustainable Economic Development in Southern Border Provinces’ under the project to enhance the potential of new-generation farmers and community enterprise entrepreneurs in community product production by Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University (STOU) in collaboration with the Southern Border Provinces Administrative Center (SBPAC) and the provincial commerce office in the southern border provinces. The event was organized to drive the goal of enhancing the potential of business entrepreneurs by creating added value for products through branding and protecting that innovation with intellectual property, such as registering tr
ademarks for products of community enterprises or entrepreneurs in the southern border provinces under the government’s policy of using the Soft Power concept to develop Thailand’s economy, focusing on promoting the creative economy through several main strategies: promoting cultural and artistic diversity, creating a creative economy through organizing activities that create value for the country’s economy and enhancing Thailand’s good image on the world stage. Wanpong Kocharat, Secretary-General of the Southern Border Provinces Administrative Center, Mrs. Patimah Sadiyamu, Governor of Narathiwat Province Assistant Professor Dr. Phawin Chinachoti, Chairman of the Department of Management Science, Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University, the Prime Minister of Pattani Municipality, as well as the heads of local government agencies and local entrepreneurs welcomed at the Nam Phrao Ballroom Meeting Room, C.S. Pattani Hotel, Pattani Province.

In this regard, Pol. Col. Thawee Sodsong, Minister of Jus
tice, said that economic development in the southern border provinces of Thailand is an important and challenging issue because this area has experienced many economic and social problems. Creating southern products to increase economic value is one part that will create opportunities and create local capital through promoting identity and culture, which is an effective method to strengthen the local economy and preserve culture to create sustainability and unity in the area. This is a government policy that supports the creation of creative power or the country’s soft power to enhance and develop the knowledge and creativity of Thai people to increase value and generate more income, including the conservation, restoration, and further development of arts and culture, and the promotion of local wisdom to be further developed in creating and developing brands that have unique identities and communicate local culture, so that products have added value and can compete in both domestic and international markets.

Wanpong Kocharat, Secretary-General of the Southern Border Provinces Administrative Center (SBPAC), said that the seminar on the project ‘Southern Products, Aiming for Sustainable Economic Development’ is a collaboration between Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University, the Southern Border Provinces Administrative Center, and the provincial commerce office in the southern border provinces. It was organized to develop the skills and knowledge of community enterprise entrepreneurs, promote economic development in the three southern border provinces, and strengthen local communities through product development and branding to develop the southern border provinces, which are areas with unique identities and abundant resources and cultures.

In this event, there were more than 220 participants in the academic seminar, activity booths, and exhibitions. They were entrepreneurs, community enterprises, farmers from the five southern border provinces, and interested people. 712
