Bueng Kan: Communities across Thailand engaged in widespread merit-making activities to honor the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej the Great on King Naresuan the Great Day. The ceremonies, which included offerings to monks, wreath-laying, and volunteer activities, took place in various provinces, demonstrating the enduring respect and loyalty to the former monarch.

According to Thai News Agency, in Bueng Kan, Governor Jumpot Wannachatsiri led a significant event at the multipurpose pavilion by the Mekong River. The ceremony featured Buddhist chanting and the offering of alms to 84 monks, intending to dedicate the merit to King Bhumibol Adulyadej the Great. This event was part of a series of activities scheduled for October 13, 2024, including a wreath-laying ceremony at Bueng Kan Provincial Hall and a volunteer activity themed “We Do Good with Our Hearts” at Bueng Kan Public Park.

In Phatthalung Province, Governor Nisakorn Wisitsora-at spearheaded a similar observance, with the assistance of government official
s and local citizens. The group offered alms to monks and participated in a Buddhist prayer ceremony conducted by 10 monks from various temples in the province.

Further north, in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Province, the local municipality collaborated with Sala Poon Worawihan Temple to organize a merit-making ceremony. Phra Wachiropas, the abbot of Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya District and Sala Poon Worawihan Temple, led the event, which included 89 monks and novices walking to receive alms.

Exceptionally, Mr. Pradit Rattanakomol, Chairman of the Islamic Committee of Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, demonstrated an interfaith gesture by leading Muslims in a prayer for blessings from God, dedicated as royal merit. The community also participated in laying wreaths at the portrait of King Bhumibol Adulyadej the Great and released 999,910 fish as a symbolic act of merit-making.
