The Surakarta city government had readied a centralized isolation location for children, as schools started becoming new clusters of COVID-19 transmission.
“I have urged the regional secretary office to prepare centralized isolation for children, especially those of elementary and junior high schools,” Surakarta Mayor Gibran Rakabuming Raka stated at the Surakarta City Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) on Tuesday.
Raka noted that the city government had readied Ndalem Priyosuhartan, located on Perintis Kemerdekaan Street, Number 70, Laweyan Sub-district, as a centralized isolation facility for children. The place had earlier functioned as an isolation place for COVID-19 asymptomatic patients at the onset of the pandemic.
According to Raka, preparing the centralized isolation location is part of the Surakarta city government’s readiness to face the third wave of COVID-19.
“We must be ready for the third wave of COVID-19. Yesterday, I had a briefing meeting with the coordinating minister, minister of health, and minister of transportation. We must be ready to face the third wave of COVID-19. New clusters began to surface in schools, especially among unvaccinated younger kids,” Raka noted.
Other efforts that have also been readied comprised oxygen cylinders, health workers, and hospitals.
Meanwhile, Head of the Surakarta City BPBD, Nico Agus Putranto, noted that 41 beds had been prepared at the isolation location.
“Yesterday, we increased facilities for children at the centralized isolation place. We provided a portable toilet and hand-washing stalls,” Putranto stated.
In addition, other facilities added comprise a fan and two television units to entertain the children during their isolation period.
