Sabida Leads Flood Relief Efforts in Uthai Thani, Ensures Safe Evacuation of Tourists

UTHAI THANI: Deputy Minister of Interior Sabida Thaiset actively participated in flood relief efforts in Ban Rai District, Uthai Thani Province, following heavy rains that caused flash floods. The water level has since receded, allowing officials to begin clearing main roads for traffic.

According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Traisuree Traisaranakul, spokeswoman for the Ministry of Interior, reported that the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) noted that the severe weather led to flash floods in Ban Rai Subdistrict on the night of Saturday, October 19, 2014. The flooding affected the community and main roads, trapping 10 tourists in a resort who subsequently requested evacuation assistance.

Ms. Sabida Thaiset was present in the area to oversee the situation and provide necessary aid to affected residents and tourists. The relief operation was supported by personnel and equipment from various groups, including the Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Center Region 16, Chainat, the Provincial D
isaster Prevention and Mitigation Office, the District Irrigation Project, the Emergency Medical Service Unit, local military and police units, volunteers, and the Village Defense Volunteers.

“Minister Sabida was on the ground overnight, monitoring the rescue efforts to ensure the victims were safely rescued. It is known that 10 tourists trapped in the resort were rescued from the area at 9:50 p.m. and throughout the night the water level continued to recede. In the morning, the water level in Ban Rai Subdistrict had receded completely. Officials are cleaning the main road to open it up for the public,” said Ms. Traisulee.

The Ministry of Interior’s spokesperson stated that Uthai Thani Province continues to monitor the situation, instructing relevant agencies to issue warnings to residents in risk areas to safeguard their belongings. A coordination center has been established to assist victims, with personnel, tools, and disaster machinery on standby for 24-hour support. Efforts are underway to expedite dam
age assessments and provide aid in accordance with regulations.
