Prinya’ urges the Ministry of Higher Education to solve the problem of buying and selling fake educational certificates, not just to show off. He admits that it may be true in some places, and is concerned that it will damage the Thai education sector and be used as a way into politics.

Mr. Prinya Thaewanarumitkul, a lecturer at the Faculty of Law, Thammasat University, gave an interview about the trading of educational degrees. He said that in fact, this is something that has been talked about for some time. In some places, degrees can be traded. There are also rumors that it may actually happen in some places. If there is evidence that there is real trading, it must be dealt with because it will cause damage. However, from his own experience, he has never seen it himself. He has only heard about it. However, this should not happen. If it does happen, the responsible agency, such as the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI), must deal with it because this cannot happen. If
degrees can be traded, it will cause damage to the quality of education because Thailand does not have a prominent reputation for education. We already have a problem that fewer people will attend university because people with higher incomes send their children to study abroad. Therefore, we would like to take this opportunity to make the quality of education better. If there is real evidence, it must be dealt with so that it does not happen.

As for whether it is possible to buy and sell academic qualifications so easily, Mr. Prinya said that it is not something that can easily happen. If it comes from someone with real power or there may be officials involved, it is possible. He emphasized that this is not an easy matter, but if it happens, it must be dealt with. We cannot let this happen because people who intend to take the exam, intend to study, pay for credits until they graduate, it turns out that this can be bought with money. So why should we study?

As for this matter, how does it relate to those w
ho may enter political positions? Mr. Prinya said that it must be made clear, not to be bluffing, to be honest, and to show that the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation is serious about this matter, because in reality, Thai education already has many problems. When there is this issue, it makes it even more problematic.

When asked again whether it would be even more disgraceful to buy an educational qualification to enter national politics, Mr. Prinya said that it would be even worse and would affect the entry into various positions, as it would become fake one after another. -319-Thai News Agency
