Ms. Paethongtarn Shinawatra, Prime Minister, held bilateral discussions with Mr. Pham Minh Chinh, Prime Minister of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, emphasizing that Vietnam is an important strategic partner of Thailand and expressing condolences to Vietnam for being affected by Typhoon ‘Yagi’. Thailand has donated 2 million baht to support the Vietnamese government in helping the victims. Mr. Chirayu Huangsap, Government Spokesperson,
revealed that the two leaders agreed to accelerate facilitation and reduce trade barriers between each other to achieve the target of trade value of 25 billion US dollars or approximately 850 billion baht, by asking Vietnam to support Thai investment in Vietnam, especially in petrochemicals, energy and commercial banking, and Thaila
nd and Vietnam will promote cooperation according to the Three Connects strategy to link supply chains, local economies and sustainable development strategies.
Both sides will support the increase in flights between the two countries, especially the opening of direct flights between Thai provinces and cities in Vietnam. For tourism, Thailand is the number 1 destination for Vietnamese tourists, while Thai tourists travel to Vietnam in sixth place. Vietnam supports the concept of 6 tourist destinations or Six Countries, One Destination of Thailand to promote tourism in the region.
On this occasion, Thailand and Vietnam are pushing for regular meetings, discussions, and exchanges of high-level visits between Thailand and Vietnam. Thailand accepted the invitation to visit Vietnam officially and chaired the 4th Joint Cabinet Retreat with Vietnam to upgrade the relationship between Thailand and Vietnam to Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
