PM discusses with US at ASEAN forum

Paetongtarn”, Prime Minister, discussed with the United States at the ASEAN forum, confident that Thailand is a bridge connecting ASEAN and the United States, emphasizing the promotion of peace, stability and prosperity at the regional and global levels, and joining hands to bring new technologies to combat drugs and prevent disasters.

Mr. Jirayu Huangsap, spokesman of the Prime Minister’s Office, revealed that at 17.30 hrs., Ms. Paethongtarn Shinawatra, Prime Minister, met with Mr. Antony J. Blinken, Secretary of State of the United States, during the 44th and 45th ASEAN Summits. The Prime Minister confirmed the intention of the Thai government to work with the United States to promote cooperation in various areas for the common benefit of both countries, which are urgent problems for the people, such as drugs, online fraud, and various disasters.

In terms of security cooperation, Thailand is committed to continuing cooperation in defense, particularly in joint exercises such as Cobra Gold, and exchanging
military and educational knowledge, as well as dealing with new challenges. Thailand is committed to solving the drug problem and is ready to increase cooperation with the United States to add new technologies and equipment to combat drug trafficking organizations and transnational crimes, including online fraud.

On the economic front, Thailand and the United States will jointly promote more trade and investment, as well as cooperation on disaster management. Thailand will work with the United States to add new technologies and expertise to help reduce disaster risk and damage.

Mr. Chirayu continued that both countries discussed regional cooperation with the United States in many dimensions. Thailand is ready to be a bridge builder to promote peace, stability and prosperity at the regional and global levels, and is ready to continuously support the constructive role of the United States in this region for peace and to end the conflicts currently occurring in various regions. The United States also recognize
s the importance of ASEAN’s role in promoting cooperation between ASEAN and the United States, including people-to-people relations between Thailand and the United States.

On this occasion, the US Secretary of State also congratulated the Prime Minister on the occasion of assuming the position of the 31st Prime Minister of Thailand and expressed his condolences for the flood situation that is currently occurring in Thailand.
