Government House, 15 Oct – Prime Minister confirms the government is not indifferent, orders the National Police Chief to expedite the case of The Icon – investigate the issue of government officials accepting bribes, asks the Consumer Protection Board to create knowledge for the public to prevent being deceived by direct sales businesses, while the Ministry of Finance has set measures to close the loopholes of pyramid schemes.

Ms. Paethongtarn Shinawatra, Prime Minister, revealed that the cabinet meeting discussed direct sales and online products that are in the news every day. She asked the Royal Thai Police to provide channels for the public to report clues and file complaints quickly in order to reduce misunderstandings among the public. She also asked the Office of the Consumer Protection Board (OCPB) to urgently set measures and enforce the law, as well as educate the public because sometimes people who enter the business do not know what is required for direct sales. Therefore, this must be done to pr
event such fraudulent problems from occurring.

In addition, the Ministry of Public Health, through the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), is requested to urgently inspect and enforce the law to prevent uncertified products from being sold in direct sales or online sales systems, including requesting the Ministry of Finance to inspect and set preventive measures to prevent pyramid schemes from happening again.

When asked if the issue of The Icon has now escalated to state officials demanding bribes and allowing these businesses to continue, the Prime Minister said that he had previously had the opportunity to talk to the National Police Chief. This is a big issue. The government and the National Police Office are not indifferent and think that there must be further investigations into who, how, and what they did. The National Police Chief is serious about this issue.

As for the legal case, if it falls under the category of a special case, the DSI will take the case and work together with the police. As for
the bribery issue, we have already informed the national police chief to handle this matter seriously and do not want any more victims.

When asked about how the ‘Consumer Protection Board Angels’ would investigate this matter, as it is part of what keeps these businesses going, the Prime Minister said that we don’t want these businesses to deceive the public again because there are many people who have suffered greater damage than we thought. Therefore, we must take serious action on this matter and I have already given orders to all parties. I will present the results to the public so that they will feel at ease. If they are going to do business like this or that, what information will we have so that we don’t get deceived?

When asked about the leaked audio clip, which said that politicians were involved and were able to lobby to prevent the matter from being submitted to the committee, the Prime Minister said that Mr. Wan Muhammad Noor Matha, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, had ordered an inv
estigation. -316.-Thai News Agency
