Mr. Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, Minister of Labor, revealed the progress of the case of the death of 1 Thai worker from the unrest in Israel, saying that the executives of the Ministry of Labor and I would like to express our condolences to the bereaved family. As for the deceased, the Ministry of Labor, represented by the Permanent Secretary of Labor and the Director-General of the Department of Employment, is currently investigating the information to obtain the exact facts. Because today, there is still some information that it is a closed area where people cannot work. But why are Thai workers allowed to work in that area? Therefore, we would like to investigate with PIBA, the agency that oversees labor matters. Thai workers are one of the countries that PIBA oversees. We must clearly i
nvestigate that the accident that resulted in the death was not caused by a bomb being fired. It may have been an accident caused by an unexploded bomb that exploded. As for all the details, the Permanent Secretary of Labor and the Director-General of the Department of Employment will investigate the details according to the procedure.

‘For the deceased, the Ministry of Labor will look into how to help and, importantly, whether they went to work through the Ministry of Labor or not, through the Department of Employment or not. We will check the details of this first. Once we can check where the deceased’s family is, we will have the agencies under the Ministry of Labor or the 5 labor tigers in the area go to meet and help the family as much as possible,’ said Mr. Pipat.

Mr. Pipat continued that he had been informed by Mr. Kittthana Srisuriya, Minister Counselor (Labor) at the Royal Thai Embassy in Tel Aviv, Israel, that today (12 October 2024), PIBA had unofficially reported the death of a Thai worker, as w
ell as local sources, stating that the deceased Thai worker was identified as Mr. Nisant Meeram, aged 42, originally from Buriram Province, who died in a kibbutz in northern Israel. Initial estimates indicate that he died from a shell explosion that fell in his work area at an apple orchard. The Labor Department has checked the information of the deceased Thai worker on the PIBA website and found that the deceased traveled to work in Israel on his own around 6 May 2024. If there is official confirmation from the Israeli government and the Royal Thai Embassy in Tel Aviv, we will report it.

‘The Ministry of Labor would like to express our condolences to the families of the deceased in Israel. We will closely monitor the situation and provide the best possible care to our Thai workers,’ Mr. Pipat concluded.
