BANGKOK: Mr. Anusorn Aimsa-ard, a party-list MP for the Pheu Thai Party, expressed confidence in the party’s ability to address allegations of outside influence and the petition filed for its dissolution. Despite an investigation launched by the Election Commission (EC), Anusorn remains unperturbed about the potential impact on the party’s future.

According to Thai News Agency, the EC, led by Secretary-General Mr. Saweng Boonmee, has initiated a fact-finding committee to investigate claims that Mr. Thaksin Shinawatra, a former prime minister, has been exerting influence over the current Prime Minister Ms. Paethongtarn Shinawatra and the Pheu Thai Party. The investigation also extends to six former coalition parties. The EC’s acceptance of the petition reflects its duty to consider submissions and respect the petitioner’s rights, Anusorn remarked, emphasizing that the party is not concerned about the process.

Anusorn further explained that the case’s merit must be thoroughly examined, considering all element
s and their connections. The assessment will take several months, suggesting a detailed and deliberate approach by the authorities. He reiterated confidence in Pheu Thai’s legal team to elucidate the party’s innocence, ensuring that legislative and administrative activities continue uninterrupted.

Anusorn assured that the Pheu Thai Party, under the leadership of Ms. Paethongtarn Shinawatra, remains committed to addressing national issues and serving the populace without distraction or hindrance from the ongoing investigations.
