Opening a national victim screening and referral center, raising the Thai human trafficking situation to Tier 1

Royal Thai Police, in collaboration with partner agencies and international representatives, jointly opened the ‘National Victim Screening and Referral Center’ to raise Thailand’s human trafficking situation to Tier 1.

Pol. Lt. Gen. Prajuab Wongsuk, Assistant Commissioner-General of the Royal Thai Police, Acting Deputy Commissioner-General of the Royal Thai Police, presided over the opening of the National Victim Screening and Transfer Center, which was attended by Pol. Lt. Gen. Apichart Siribunya, Commander of the Office of Legal Affairs and Cases/Chief of the Anti-Human Trafficking Task Force, and representatives from 14 agencies, such as the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security (MSDHS), the Ministry of Interior, the Ministry of Justice, the Office of the Attorney General, etc.

Pol. Lt. Gen. Prachuap said that the National Screening and Referral Center will be another important place to help fellow human beings and must follow the plan to prevent and suppress human trafficking, which intends
to upgrade from Tier 2 to Tier 1. It has promoted assistance and protection for victims of human trafficking through the National Referral Mechanism (NRM) in collaboration with neighboring countries and affected countries such as China, Canada, and Australia, including the opening of this screening center to provide shelter, care, and protection for those who enter the screening process and are proven to be victims of human trafficking. Mental health care will be provided before they return to society. He confirmed that the various processes can screen and help real victims by screening out those who volunteer or are involved in the human trafficking process.

The National Sorting and Referral Center has 4 operational steps according to the plan: 1. Receiving reports 2. Screening 3. Sorting and 4. Protection. In the provinces, the provincial governors are responsible for designating the locations and managing them. In Bangkok and the central region, the Royal Thai Police, the Ministry of Social Development an
d Human Security, and the Ministry of Labor are responsible. All 3 agencies have also continuously improved the Immigration Bureau Training Center and established it as a national Ministry Sorting Center for Victims, which the government officially approved on March 27.
