Surat Thani’s rice and curry shop offers free food as a royal merit-making offering on the anniversary of the passing of His Majesty King Rama IX.

Today (12 Oct 67) at Khao Kaeng Phi Luang restaurant, Sampao Thong Market, Surat Thani Municipality, the shop opens from 7:00 a.m., offering free, unlimited food to make merit on the anniversary of the passing of His Majesty King Rama IX tomorrow, 13 Oct 67. However, because tomorrow is Sunday, Phi Luang restaurant is closed, so today’s food will be served. Since the shop opened, there have been many people, both families and individuals, who have come to eat food, which includes plain rice and more than 20 dishes, including free desserts, served until the food runs out.

Mr. Itsarasak Sakdapitak, or Phi Luang, aged 68, said that he has been providing free rice and curry as a royal merit for the third year. He took a break during the Covid period for 2 years. This year, he is continuing to provide the meal as a royal merit for His Majesty King Rama IX, who is the
inspiration of all Thai people.
