OBEC delighted as Thai students win 26 awards at ‘Math-Science Olympiad’ in China

Oct 8 – OBEC delighted that Thai students won 26 awards in the international ‘Math-Science Olympiad’ in China.

Lt. Col. Thanu Wongchinda, Secretary-General of the Office of the Basic Education Commission (OBEC), revealed that the Office of the Basic Education Commission (OBEC) has brought a group of primary school students who are talented in mathematics and science to participate in the International Mathematics and Science Olympiad for Primary Schools 2024 (IMSO 2024) during October 1-6, 2024 in Wenzhou, Zhejiang Province, People’s Republic of China in 2 subjects: Mathematics (12 people) and Science (12 people), totaling 24 people. The results showed that all Thai student representatives were able to bring back awards to the country, including 5 gold medals, 9 silver medals, 10 bronze medals, including the Best over all Math award and the Discovery STEM award, totaling 26 awards. The group of students and trainers returned to Thailand on the night of October 6, 2024 at Suvarnabhumi Airport, where school a
dministrators, teachers, and students’ families welcomed and congratulated them.

For the International Mathematics and Science Olympiad, Primary Level, 2024, there are 18 countries participating in the competition: Thailand, Singapore, Vietnam, Bulgaria, Botswana, China, Iran, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Laos, Mongolia, Malaysia, Nepal, Philippines, Sri Lanka, with a total of 263 students participating from all countries. The awards of Thai students are as follows:

Mathematics branch, 13 awards, divided into 3 gold medals: 1. Chatdanai Limsirirungsan, Krabi International School 2. Phuttiphong Nontikan, Srisawangwong School 3. Petchprima Setthapiyanon, Mater Dei School / 5 silver medals: 1. Yanaphak Pinkaew, Kasetsart University Demonstration School 2. Nanthanat Phdungkiatwong, Prachuap Khiri Khan Kindergarten School 3. Piya Tungto, Tangpiruntham School 4. Punnathee Arunnara, Srinakharinwirot University Prasarnmit Demonstration School, Primary Division 5. Romchat Sujirat, Chulalongko
rn University Demonstration School, Primary Division / 4 bronze medals: 1. Thanatsit Phueajirayus, Kwangchao School 2. Panthachat Addoddor, Nakhon Ratchasima Kindergarten School 3. Warurin Satchawannakun, Sisaket Kindergarten School 4. Siwat Chalermnithiwong, Wat Don Kaitiea School and the Best over all Math award goes to Chatdanai Limsirirangsan.

Science branch, 13 awards, consisting of 2 gold medals: 1. Miss Netitda Tangyingyong, Wat Khao Kloi School, 2. Mr. Waris Suwannachatri, Saengthong Witthaya School / 4 silver medals: 1. Miss Natthakulya Thavornphat, Phanasuksa Kindergarten School, 2. Mr. Thanadon Kasemthammakit, Kasetsart University Demonstration School, 3. Mr. Pannapat Kongnakorn, Saengthong Witthaya School, 4. Mr. Sirawit Thanasansuksathit, St. Gabriel’s School / 6 bronze medals: 1. Miss Kanwarin Thavornphat, Mater Dei School, 2. Mr. Patcharapol Chonpaisan, Saengthong Witthaya School, 3. Miss Sirachanyakarn Laokitwirun, Sisaket Kindergarten School, 4. Mr. Ananda Anantachok, Chulalongkorn Universit
y Demonstration School, Primary Section, 5. Mr. Alif Sama, Assumption College, Primary Section, 6. Mr. Intouch Honorary School of Samsen Kindergarten and the Discovery STEM Award, Team Thailand received the 1st runner-up award.

Ms. Thannan Kaewkerd, Deputy Director of the Office of Educational Management Innovation Development, OBEC, who led the student team participating in the competition, said that OBEC has supported and promoted educational institutions to develop students’ skills and abilities in all aspects, in accordance with the policy of ‘Good Learning, Happy Learning’ of Pol. Gen. Phetphun Chidchob, Minister of Education, and Mr. Surasak Pancharoenworakul, Deputy Minister of Education, especially in mathematics and science skills, to be an important force in developing the country in the future. It also recognizes the importance of creating opportunities for Thai children to participate in international competitions to enhance their abilities and develop themselves to their full potential. On this
occasion, I would like to congratulate all students who participated in the competition and received awards from the international stage this time. It is considered a proud honor for themselves, their families, educational institutions, and the country.

On the other hand, Miss Netitda Tangyingyong from Wat Khao Kloi School, the winner of the gold medal in Science, said that in joining this competition, she felt that it was not an ordinary competition, but a good opportunity to meet smart people from many countries, face exams that make us have fun and excitement, make new friends, and have memorable experiences. She would like to thank the Office of the Basic Education Commission for bringing us students to join this competition and taking good care of us.

While Inthach Tangkittisak, a boy from Samsen Kindergarten School, received a bronze medal in Science and joined the Thailand team that won the Discovery STEM award as the 1st runner-up. He said that he prepared to join the competition by reading books, d
oing exercises, reviewing his knowledge, and reading more about things he didn’t understand. He was satisfied with the results because no matter what award he received, he was already successful. He also gained experience and got to know friends from many countries. He asked the Office of the Basic Education Commission to continue doing good projects like this every year.

As for Mr. Piya Tungto, a student at Tangpiruntham School, who won a silver medal in the mathematics category, he said that he was happy and proud to be a representative of Thai students to participate in this competition. He brought fame to his family and the country and gained a fun, exciting and memorable experience.
