The final stretch of the book fair: new books sold by the kilo for 10 baht per 100 grams; readers shop for over 2 million books

Mr. Suwich Rungwattanapaiboon, President of the Publishers and Booksellers Association of Thailand (PUBAT), revealed that the ’29th National Book Fair’ said that the annual book fair in 2024 under the theme ‘Reading to the Next World’ has reached its final stages before ending on Sunday, October 20. It is still packed with readers and interested parties, resulting in a lively atmosphere. On average, readers purchased at least 600 baht worth of books per person, ensuring that the entire event will generate the targeted revenue.

Because in addition to over 2 million good books, there are more than 3,000 new covers, which all publishers are now willing to reduce the price by another 50% from the previous reduction of up to 80% because they don’t want to carry the goods back. Meanwhile, some publishers use the strategy of selling books by weight at very cheap prices, starting from 100
grams for 10 baht, including organizing promotions during the golden minute with discounts, exchanges, freebies, and premium items produced only for this event.

In addition, there are exhibitions and activities on the central stage and in various zones around the event for more than 100 fun activities, especially the ‘Horrifying Library Exhibition’ which received a lot of attention, with an average of 2,500 participants per day, exceeding the target of only 1,000 people per day.

The 29th National Book Fair, which is supported by the Department of Cultural Promotion, through the work of the Subcommittee for the Promotion of the Book Industry under THACCA and the Department of Cultural Promotion, from October 10-20, 2024 at Halls 5-7, LG Floor, Queen Sirikit National Convention Center
