Mourning! ‘Police Sergeant’ helps accident victim, killed by pickup truck


A police sergeant was on his way home after finishing his shift when he encountered an accident in the middle of the road. He quickly pulled over to help, but was eventually hit by a speeding pickup truck and thrown from the road, killing him.

CCTV captured the moment when Police Sergeant Patiphan Uthabun, 28, commander of the crime prevention unit at Phu Ruea Police Station in Loei Province, was standing waving to prevent further accidents after a motorcycle fell in the middle of the road. Suddenly, a pickup truck was speeding and hit Pol. Sgt. Patiphan hard, throwing him far away before he died. The incident occurred on the Loei-Chiang Khan Road in the middle of the night on August 17.

The family recently brought Pol. Lt. Patiphan’s body to perform religious rites at his hometown in Non Sawang Village, Nong Khan Subdistrict, Phu Ruea District. His father, Pol. Lt. Kitti Uthabun, deputy inspector of crime prevention and suppression at Phu Luang Police Station, is still grieving. He revealed that Pol. Lt.
Patiphan was the eldest of three siblings. On the day of the accident, after finishing his shift, his son happened to see the accident and went to help. While he was waving for a car, it happened as in the clip. The other party came to the funeral and expressed their condolences, but there has been no discussion about compensation. Initially, he was charged with reckless driving causing death.
