Ministry helping MSMEs to go digital through virtual expo

The Ministry of Communication and Informatics has rolled out the 4.0 technology adoption facilitation program for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) through the “2022 MSMEs Go Online Virtual Expo.”

“This is an assistance program for 30 thousand MSMEs in the management result production sector spread out in 13 program region provinces,” Director General of Informatics Application at the ministry Semuel Abrijani Pangerapan informed.

Under the program, MSMEs are being provided knowledge so that they can utilize digital technology in a productive and innovative manner to develop their products and boost marketing, he said in a press statement issued on Monday.

The implementation of this assistance activity has involved helping 100 selected MSMEs to participate in the virtual expo.

The materials provided under the program include guidance on how to conduct business in the network by utilizing the e-commerce platforms that have developed in the country.

The “2022 MSMEs Go Online Virtual Expo” also features a series of webinars on technology adoption and other areas that are aimed at helping MSMEs improve their capacity and market access.

The activity has also been designed as an event to market MSMEs products. MSMEs can showcase their products online through the expo.

“This virtual expo is not only deemed to be efficient in terms of cost, but also effective in marketing MSMEs products with broader reach,” Pangerapan informed.

The ministry has allowed four categories of products to be exhibited at the expo: foods and beverages, fashion, handicrafts, and leather crafts.

Data from the Ministry of Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) shows that there are currently 64 million MSMEs in Indonesia.

MSMEs are the backbone of the Indonesian economy since they are capable of absorbing almost 97 percent of the workforce nationally, Pangerapan noted.

The virtual expo is being held for four days from October 8 to October 11, 2022. The online exhibition features primary products from 100 MSMEs from 13 provinces.
