The Manpower Ministry has urged all stakeholders to prioritize the realization of workplaces that are free of discrimination and ensure that preventive efforts against sexual violence are in place.
“One of the things that we need to pay attention to is realizing the comfort of working without discrimination and preventing sexual violence in workplaces,” the ministry’s director of labor relations and wages, Dinar Titus Jogaswitani, said at an ILO (International Labour Organization) Indonesia discussion event here on Wednesday.
The Indonesian government is committed to providing protection to workers, both women and men, and has ratified ILO Convention No. 100 of 1951 to guarantee equal pay for men and women workers, she added.
Indonesia has also ratified ILO Convention No. 111 of 1958 concerning discrimination in employment and occupation, she noted.
“By ratifying the convention, Indonesia is committed to achieving equal opportunity and treatment in terms of employment and occupation,” she explained.
Furthermore, the Indonesian government has shown its seriousness about dealing with the issue of sexual violence with the ratification of Law No. 12 of 2022 concerning sexual crime prevention (UU TPKS), Jogaswitani pointed out.
Sexual violence can happen to anyone and harms the victims, she said.
According to her, sexual violence cases also have an impact on a company’s productivity so the business world needs to ensure their prevention.
“Sexual violence that occurs in workplaces can (lead to a) decline (in) performance that affects work productivity, which has an impact on business continuity,” she said.
Earlier, the ministry had called for social dialogue for resolving labor problems between workers and employers.
The ministry is also pushing the implementation of K3 (work safety and health), such as HIV and COVID-19 prevention, and an inclusive labor market.
“It is our form of investment to maintain business continuity and achieve company productivity,” Manpower Minister Ida Fauziyah said during the Work Safety and Health Award in May 2022.
