Sadao: Chaos erupted in Soi Ruam Thai 1, Sadao Municipality, Sadao District, Songkhla Province, as a mentally ill man set fire to his own two-story house, prompting neighbors to hastily move their belongings. Fortunately, the fire was contained before it could spread to surrounding buildings.
According to Thai News Agency, the blaze originated on the wooden upper floor of the house and rapidly engulfed the entire structure. The scene included several adjacent shophouses, prompting Sadao Municipality and the Mai Kham Rescue Unit to swiftly deploy fire engines. It took nearly an hour to control the flames, preventing them from reaching nearby residences. Despite the quick response, the incident caused significant distress among local residents, who feared for their own homes and possessions.
Investigations revealed that the fire was deliberately started by the homeowner, identified as Mr. Thawatchai, approximately 40 years old. At the time, he was suffering from delusions and remained inside the burning house
. Authorities from the Sadao Police Station, along with the public relations team and rescue unit, managed to extract him in a naked state. Mr. Thawatchai was identified as a psychiatric patient and was subsequently taken into custody. He was initially treated at Sadao Hospital before being transferred to Songkhla Rajanagarindra Psychiatric Hospital for further care.
