SONGKHLA: Football enthusiasts are gearing up for the 50th edition of the King’s Cup football tournament, where the Thai national team is set to face Syria. Alongside the sporting action, visitors have the opportunity to explore the scenic locales of Songkhla City, including Khao Tang Kuan and the pristine Samila Beach.

According to Thai News Agency, the Thai national team, under the guidance of Japanese coach Masatada Ishii, has been rigorously preparing for the upcoming match against Syria, ranked 92nd globally. The team’s preparations included two training sessions; the morning session involved the main squad and reserves focusing on recovery at the Laguna Resort Hotel, while the afternoon session at the Prince of Songkla University Stadium catered to reserves and non-playing members, emphasizing ball possession and shooting skills.

Aphisit Sorada, a prominent player from Ratchaburi FC, expressed satisfaction with his performance and the team’s victory over the Philippines in an earlier match. The team h
arbors high hopes for clinching the championship by defeating Syria.

For tourists and football fans, Songkhla offers much more than just the excitement of the tournament. Visitors can ascend Khao Tang Kuan hill for panoramic views of Songkhla City and the Gulf of Thailand. The hilltop is also home to the city’s sacred pagoda. Not far from here lies Samila Beach, known for its white sands and tranquil environment, shaded by pine trees and marked by a notable mermaid statue, a popular spot for photographs and a significant landmark of Songkhla.

The competition schedule includes a third-place match between the Philippines and Tajikistan at 4:30 p.m., followed by the final showdown between Thailand and Syria at 8:00 p.m., both taking place at the Tinsulanon Stadium on October 14.
