Pran buri: Officials from Kui Buri National Park successfully aided an injured wild gaur caught in a trap, after a local resident reported the distressed animal in the Khao Chao Subdistrict of Prachuap Khiri Khan Province.

According to Thai News Agency, the operation was led by Mr. Atthapong Pao-on, Chief of Kui Buri National Park, who coordinated with veterinarians, wildlife conservation officers, and other relevant authorities. The team, equipped with medical supplies, initially used a drone to locate the gaur, but the search required a shift to on-foot tracking due to the dense forest terrain.

The injured gaur, a fully grown male weighing several hundred kilograms, was eventually found around 14:00 hours. Due to the challenging conditions of the dense forest, the team lured the animal to a safer location by 17:00 hours. They then tranquilized the gaur to safely administer medical treatment. The gaur had a deep wound on its right front leg, caused by a wire rope. Using steel cutters, the team removed th
e wire and cleaned the wound thoroughly. Treatment included the application of disinfectant gel, maggot killing powder, and intravenous saline, along with injections of antibiotics and tonics to counteract the animal’s weakened state.

Once the gaur showed signs of recovery and was able to stand, the rescue team withdrew, allowing the animal to return to its natural habitat. The successful intervention highlights the ongoing efforts of wildlife conservationists in the region to protect and rehabilitate endangered species.
