A thrilling chase of a thief who stole a pickup truck from Ratchaburi town and fled across to Samut Songkhram, but was eventually cornered and arrested by the police. The thief claimed that he had no income and wanted to go to prison, but still had food to eat.

Police chased a thief who stole a white Toyota Revo pickup truck, single cab, with a Ratchaburi license plate. The thief took advantage of the moment when the owner parked his car to withdraw money from an ATM on Phetkasem Road in Ratchaburi Province. The thief used Phetkasem Road towards Photharam, crossed Samut Songkhram-Bang Pae Road, and escaped into Samut Songkhram Province. He was about to enter the old Pak Tho Road heading back to Ratchaburi Province until he lost control and fell off the side of the road.

The officers then surrounded the scene and signaled for the perpetrator to get out of the car, but there was no response. The officers therefore called for support from many parties and had to be careful in negotiating, as it was known that
inside the car there was a .38 revolver with ammunition in the chamber and a 9 mm semi-automatic.

Almost an hour later, the perpetrator got out of the car and surrendered. He was later identified as Ekkachai, 47 years old, from Ratchaburi. He wore a 10 baht gold necklace and a gold-framed Buddha amulet belonging to the car owner. A .38 revolver with 5 rounds of ammunition and a 9 mm semi-automatic belonging to the car owner were also found.

Mr. Eakachai gave a confusing statement, saying, ‘I live alone, have tuberculosis, have no income, and no food to eat, so I committed the crime to go to prison. I have food to eat every meal.’

Mr. Thanakorn, the younger brother of the owner of the car, said that his brother parked the pickup truck at a gas station to withdraw money without turning off the engine. Suddenly, the perpetrator got into the car and drove away.
