Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Manpower Ministry continues to intensify the dissemination of information on Indonesian migrant workers’ (PMIs’) placement and protection to minimize the non-procedural departure of Indonesian migrant workers.This dissemination of information is a form of the government’s support in the efforts to protect people, who will work abroad, starting from villages, the ministry’s official, Suhartono, noted through a statement, Tuesday.
ccording to Suhartono, village is the starting line for Indonesian migrant workers’ journey in working abroad. Creativity and innovation should continue to be developed as a collective effort in realizing better protection for migrant workers.
To this end, Suhartono urged related parties to align their perception and have a collective commitment in the effort to educate prospective migrant workers.
This step aims to ensure that they receive accurate early information on how to work abroad in a correct, safe, and comfortable manner, he stated during the Procedural PMI’s Placement Dissemination Event at Cilacap, Central Java.
fter the issuance of new regional regulation concerning certain placement destination countries for Indonesian workers, a total of 78 placement countries are open for Indonesian migrant workers, he remarked.
Meanwhile, the total number of Indonesian migrant workers, who work overseas, reached around nine million.
Moreover, the government has recently issued Manpower Ministerial Regulation No. 4 of 2023 on Indonesian Migrant Workers’ Social Security.
Within the latest regulation, there are several additional social security benefits provided to improve protection and service for Indonesian migrant workers from social risks in the event of work accident, death, or old age.
In this way, Indonesian migrant workers receive complete manpower social security protection starting from before they work, during their working period, and after their working agreement ends, Suhartono explained.
