Pattaya: A foreign man driving a Toyota Fortuner collided with a street sweeper, resulting in her body being thrown over 50 meters and sustaining serious injuries.
According to Thai News Agency, the driver identified as 34-year-old Mr. Choo, struck 22-year-old Ms. Suchada, who is a garbage collector employed by a private company. The accident occurred in the early hours on Pattaya South Road. CCTV footage from a nearby shop captured the moment when the white Fortuner swerved and hit Ms. Suchada as she was sweeping the road. Her body was seen flying over 50 meters before villagers rushed to assist, while the Fortuner fled the scene.
The authorities have detained Mr. Choo in Pattaya City Police’s detention room for questioning and potential charges. Ms. Suchada suffered a fractured neck bone and broken ribs, among other serious injuries. The car insurance company has initially stepped in to provide assistance, ensuring her transfer to Bangkok Pattaya Hospital for continued treatment under close medical super
vision.
Pattaya Mayor Pramet Ngampichet commented that Ms. Suchada was employed by an external company contracted by Pattaya City for cleaning services. The incident has prompted the company to coordinate with police and relevant agencies to enforce stricter driving regulations for foreigners. Additionally, the company is urged to implement stricter safety measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
