FDA warns to use registered drain repair products, do not mix with other products, it can be life-threatening.

After finding a fatality, which is assumed to have been caused by inhaling toxic gases from using a product to unclog pipes, the FDA revealed that the product used did not have a permit, and the label did not mention the name and address of the manufacturer. It emphasized that only products registered with the FDA should be used, which can be checked from the QR code on the side, and that they should be used according to the instructions on the label. Do not use it together with other products, as it can be life-threatening.

Pharmacist Wirachai Nalawchai, Deputy Secretary-General of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), said that regarding the news of a death, which is assumed to have been caused by inhaling toxic gases from using products to unclog pipes, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has urgently investigated the facts with the police and found that it was a product of a certain bran
d. When the same product was purchased and tested, it was found to be concentrated sulfuric acid. The FDA checked the name of the product in the health product authorization database and found no registration. The label did not include the name and address of the manufacturer.

In this regard, products for unclogging pipes are classified as hazardous substances under the responsibility of the FDA under the Hazardous Substances Act B.E. 2535 and amendments. If the main ingredient is an acid, such as sulfuric acid, it is classified as a type 3 hazardous substance. Manufacturers or importers must register the product and request a license to manufacture or import it with the FDA. The product label must also specify the hazardous substance registration number in the FDA/WOS frame, the trade name, the name and ratio of the active ingredient, how to use it, warnings, prohibitions, precautions, symbols and messages indicating the dangers of the product, and the name and address of the manufacturer, etc. Manufacturer
s or importers who do not register their products or do not request a license to manufacture or import them, as well as do not display labels or display labels incorrectly will be subject to legal punishment, including sellers of such hazardous substances. The FDA is currently collecting evidence to prosecute the product owners and sellers.

Pharmacist Wirachai Nalawchai reiterated that when using products to solve blockages in pipes, please choose only products that are registered with the FDA. Look for the hazardous substance registration number in the FDA/WOS symbol frame. You can check whether the product is properly registered or not from the QR code. In addition, the FDA has issued a warning about bleach and toilet cleaner products. They should never be mixed or poured together or used at the same time. This is because it may react to form toxic substances, which can harm the respiratory system. Users must strictly follow the warnings and recommendations on the label to prevent possible harm. They must
also not use it together or mix it with other products because the chemicals in the products may react to form toxic gases, which can be severely harmful to the body, even fatal. -411
