**Election Commission Launches Investigation into Pheu Thai Party and Coalition Partners**

Internal Affairs

BANGKOK: The Election Commission has initiated an investigation into the potential dissolution of the Pheu Thai Party and its six coalition partners, following accusations of external influence from former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra. The decision to launch an inquiry was made after evidence suggested that Mr. Thaksin, despite not being a party member, may have exerted influence over the parties.

According to Thai News Agency, the investigation stems from a petition filed with the Election Commission, which alleged that Mr. Thaksin’s involvement was significant enough to warrant scrutiny. The Secretary-General of the Election Commission, Mr. Saeng Boonmee, acting in his capacity as the registrar of political parties, responded by establishing a committee to probe these claims. The Election Commission emphasized that the decision to investigate was based on a thorough review of the petition, which included filtering relevant details and evidence.

The Election Commission has assured that the investigati
on will adhere to all legal procedures and regulations. The newly established committee is tasked with examining documents, evidence, and witness testimonies, potentially involving both the petitioner and the accused parties for further clarification. The investigation is set to be completed within 30 days, although extensions of up to 30 days each can be requested if additional evidence is necessary to form a conclusive opinion.
