Bangkok: The Department of Special Investigation (DSI) is poised to decide on the filing of additional charges against suspects involved in the alleged pyramid scheme operated by The Icon. This comes as DSI prepares to handle the case of Boss Paul, with 20 witnesses scheduled to present information on November 4.
According to Thai News Agency, Pol. Lt. Col. Yuthana Phraedam, the acting director-general of DSI, revealed that the case file from the Consumer Protection Police Division has already led to two charges being filed: fraud against the public and a violation under the Computer Crime Act. After discussions with the Office of the Consumer Protection Board (OCPB) and the Fiscal Policy Office (FPO), a potential third charge under the Emergency Decree on Fraudulent Borrowing from the Public B.E. 2527 is being considered. The DSI is reviewing various aspects of The Icon’s operations, including its business plan, financial statements, and product sales, to determine if the activities constitute a pyramid sch
eme, an offense outlined in the appendix of the Special Case Act.
Pol. Lt. Col. Yuthana mentioned that the decision to file additional charges against the original 18 suspects or other individuals is under active consideration. The matter is currently being reviewed in a meeting by an investigation team, which will collectively decide on the application of the Emergency Decree on Fraudulent Borrowing of Money from the People B.E. 2527 or pyramid schemes. The outcome of this deliberation and the filing of charges are expected shortly.
Regarding the involvement of Boss Paul’s legal team, Pol. Lt. Col. Yuthana stated that preparations are in place to receive the case and assess the relevance of the information provided by the 20 witnesses. The investigators aim to establish the connection between the witnesses and the case, ensuring that their testimonies contribute to determining guilt or innocence. The DSI emphasizes the need for prompt and thorough examination of the witness statements to aid in the resolut
ion of the case.
