Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department coordinates with 10 central provinces and Bangkok to monitor the water level in the Chao Phraya River rising from 26 Aug onwards.

25 Aug 67 at 16.00 hrs. The Ministry of Interior, by the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM), has coordinated with 10 provinces in the central region, namely Uthai Thani, Chai Nat, Sing Buri, Ang Thong, Suphan Buri, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, Lop Buri, Pathum Thani, Nonthaburi, and Samut Prakan, including Bangkok, to monitor the rising water levels in the Chao Phraya River from 26 August 2024 onwards. Officials will be assigned to closely monitor the water situation, especially in low-lying areas outside the embankments. Public relations will also be provided to warn people living along both banks of the Chao Phraya River and low-lying areas along the river to monitor water levels and prepare for the water situation. Provinces will also be notified to coordinate with local governments and relevant agencies to inspec
t embankments, prepare disaster relief equipment and machinery, and have officials monitor the situation and prepare for operations to assist people 24 hours a day.

Mr. Chaiwat Junthiraphong, Director-General of the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM), revealed that the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM), as the Central Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Command (CDMC), was informed by the Royal Irrigation Department that during August 24-30, 2024, Thailand will continue to experience continuous rainfall and heavy rain in some areas in the North, Upper Northeast, Central, and South. From the water volume forecast 1-3 days in advance, it was found that the water volume tends to increase. On August 26, 2024, at Station C.2, Mueang Nakhon Sawan District, Nakhon Sawan Province, the water flow rate was approximately 1,000 cubic meters per second, and the water volume from the tributaries was estimated to be approximately 200 cubic meters per second, which resulted in the w
ater volume above the Chao Phraya Dam being 1,200 cubic meters per second and receiving water into the Royal Irrigation Department system on both sides at a rate of 300 cubic meters per second. Therefore, it is necessary to release water through the Chao Phraya Dam. At a rate of 700 – 900 cubic meters per second, causing low-lying areas outside the embankment in the area of ??Khlong Phong Pheng, Ang Thong Province, Khlong Bang Ban, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Province, and Tambon Hua Wiang, Sena District, Tambon Lat Chit, Tambon Tha Din Daeng, Phak Hai District, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Province (Mae Nam Noi) to have the water level rise from the present by approximately 0.40 – 0.80 meters from 26 August 2024 onwards, without affecting the community area.

The Central Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Command (CDMC) has coordinated with 10 central provinces, namely Uthai Thani, Chai Nat, Sing Buri, Ang Thong, Suphan Buri, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, Lop Buri, Pathum Thani, Nonthaburi, Samut Prakan, and Bangkok, t
o closely monitor the water situation, especially in low-lying areas outside the embankments. They have also issued warnings to relevant agencies and private sectors operating businesses in the river, such as those constructing embankments and floating restaurants, as well as issued warnings to people living along both sides of the Chao Phraya River and at-risk areas in low-lying areas along the river to watch out for rising water levels and prepare to handle the water situation, including moving belongings to higher ground to avoid flooding. They have also coordinated with local administrative organizations and relevant agencies in the area to inspect embankments and flood prevention lines to ensure they are strong and prevent water levels from overflowing across the embankments. They have also prepared disaster relief materials, equipment, and machinery to prepare for operations to assist people 24 hours a day.
