Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Thai Navy inspects first rehearsal of the Royal Barge Procession

Thonburi Dockyard, 15 Oct. – The Commander of the Royal Thai Navy inspected the readiness for the first rehearsal of the Royal Barge Procession for the Royal Kathin Robe Offering Ceremony at Wat Arun Ratchawararam Ratchaworawihan.

Admiral Chirapol Wongwit, Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Thai Navy, inspected the first full rehearsal of the Royal Barge Procession for the Royal Kathin Robe Offering Ceremony at Wat Arun Ratchawararam Ratchaworawihan. Admiral Vijit Tanprapa, Special Expert of the Royal Thai Navy and Chairman of the Committee on Preparation of the Royal Barge Procession (Chairman of the Committee on Preparation of the Royal Barge Procession), also joined the group. The Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Thai Navy and the group inspected the readiness of the royal barges at the Thonburi Naval Dockyard, Royal Thai Navy Dockyard Department, before traveling to view the preparations of the venue at the Royal Naval Council Hall, Royal Thai Navy Auditorium, and Wat Arun Ratchawararam.

At 2:30 PM, Admiral
Chirapol Wongwit, Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Thai Navy, participated in the first major rehearsal of the Royal Barge Procession for the Royal Kathin Robe Offering Ceremony at Wasukri Pier. Today’s first major rehearsal was a simulation of the actual ceremony at 3:00 PM. The royal barge procession departed from Wasukri Pier, the starting point at the Bank of Thailand, and headed towards the Grand Palace, ending at Wat Arun Ratchawararam Pier, a distance of 3.9 kilometers. The royal barge procession consisted of 52 boats, of which 4 were royal barges: Anantanakarat Royal Barge, the barge carrying the Kathin robe on a throne; Suphannahong Royal Barge, the royal residence; and Anekchatphuchong Royal Barge. It is the royal barge for the royal family and the 4th barge, the Narai Song Suban Royal Barge of King Rama IX, is the reserve royal barge.

Today’s full rehearsal used a total of 52 royal barges, measuring 1,280 meters long and 90 meters wide, with a total of 2,399 personnel on board. The rehearsal for th
e royal barge procession followed the ancient royal tradition in every respect. The full rehearsal will be held once more on October 22, 2024, to prepare the rowers and all sectors, as well as to ensure that the event is smooth, elegant, and worthy of His Majesty. The Royal Barge Procession for the Royal Kathin Robe Offering Ceremony at Wat Arun Ratchawararam Ratchaworawihan is scheduled for October 27, 2024.-313.-Thai News Agency
