Miscellaneous

FRANCE, Canadian singer Celine Dion is set to perform at the opening ceremony of the Paris Games on Friday night (July 26), while Hollywood star Salma Hayek will carry the torch.

Canadian singer Celine Dion, 56, met her fans in Paris, France, and is reportedly set to return to the stage at the opening ceremony of the 2024 Paris Olympics on Friday night. The singer has been suffering from Stiff-Person Syndrome (SPS), a condition that causes stiffness in the torso, arms, and legs, with muscle spasms that affect speech and gestures. She has not performed in public since March 2020. Last May, Dion had to cancel her 2023 and 2024 performances due to her illness. However, Celine Dion made a surprise appearance at the Grammy Awards in February, and announced that Taylor Swift would win Album of the Year. If she performs, it will be the second time that Dion has performed at the Olympics, following the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta.

Salma Hayek, a famous Hollywood actress, aged 57, joined the Olympic torch relay ceremo
ny at the Palace of Versailles with athletes and celebrities from around the world, amidst a large number of French citizens and tourists. She said that it was an honor to be a part of such an important ceremony and to represent Latin and Arab women. Tomorrow (July 25), the torch will enter Seine Saint-Denis to be prepared before being lit in the opening ceremony on the Seine River, along with a parade of more than 80 boats on Friday night.
