Cabinet approves additional loan of over 270 billion baht

Nakhon Ratchasima, The Cabinet approved the adjustment of the public debt management plan for 2024, borrowing an additional 275,870 million baht to offset the fiscal deficit and support investment by state agencies and state enterprises.

Ms. Ratklao Intawong Suwannakiri, deputy government spokeswoman, revealed that the cabinet approved the second adjustment of the public debt management plan for 2024, consisting of 1. New debt plan, increased by 275,870 million baht (from the original 755,710 million baht to 1,030,580 million baht), 2. Original debt management plan, increased by 33,420 million baht (from the original 2,008,893 million baht to 2,042,314 million baht), and 3. Debt payment plan, increased by 54,555.17 million baht (from the original 399,613 million baht to 454,168 million baht).

For borrowing to compensate for the budget deficit in fiscal year 2024 in the amount of 269,000 million baht, an increase in the debt restructuring limit of government loans due in fiscal year 2025-2028 in the amount
of 50,000 million baht, and an increase in debt repayment of the Rehabilitation Fund in the amount of 29,200 million baht, an increase in debt repayment of EGAT in the amount of 25,339 million baht, etc., confirming that public debt is within the framework of 60 percent of GDP.

The second plan update for fiscal year 2024 has 32 projects, such as the construction project to improve and expand the PWA Phang Nga branch (Thap Put), Mueang Phang Nga District – Thap Put, Phang Nga Province, 8.19 million baht, the project to install a solar power generation system at Suvarnabhumi Airport, Phase 2, 795 million baht, and treasury bills in fiscal year 2024, 40 billion baht, allowing the Government Savings Bank Asset Development Company Limited (GSB) and the State Railway of Thailand to borrow money in fiscal year 2024 by expediting the implementation of the plan. The Budget Bureau accepted the observation to allocate a budget to repay the principal of the loan only in the part of government debt between 2.5 and 4 perc
ent of the annual budget.
