The National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) has recommended sharing global research funding and partnerships to provide access to research and innovation.
The statement was made by BRIN’s Acting Deputy for Human Resources, Science, and Technology Edy Giri Rachman Putra at the preliminary G20 Research and Innovation Initiative Gathering (RIIG) on Thursday.
“BRIN suggested the ease of conducting research among G20 member countries. This (idea) should continue to be promoted and prioritized by all G20 members to increase research collaboration among G20 as a form of global research partnerships,” Putra said on Friday.
According to Putra, the era of globalization has opened international opportunities for researchers. Some research projects often require large resources, thus demanding collaboration between G20 member countries in financing.
Through the G20’s RIIG, BRIN intends to promote an initiative to build a collaboration that involves G20 member states to enhance research and innovation through sharing facilities, infrastructure, and funding for research activities.
Furthermore, in the G20’s preliminary RIIG, Putra recommended easing the mobility or the flexibility of researchers to carry out their work.
“We offer international cooperation through facilities, infrastructure, and financing, as well as benefits that can be obtained from these activities, for the sake of global interests and priorities,” Putra stated.
Through the research funding schemes, Indonesia invites all G20 nations to reduce the gap in the research sector and build a better mechanism to create innovations.
G20 Research and Innovation Initiative Gathering (RIIG) is part of many G20 side events. RIIG, which was started by BRIN, has a goal to enhance, intensify, and strengthen research and innovation partnerships through sharing facilities and funding among G20 member countries.
Another key agenda that BRIN has proposed in the preliminary RIIG was the utilization of biodiversity to support the goals of the green and blue economy.
