Bio Thai Secretary says it’s a good thing CPF will sue over black chinned tilapia issue

Internal Affairs

Parliament, Bio Thai Secretary sees it as a good thing that CPF will sue because it presents the origin of the black chin tilapia outbreak because it will be proven in court. He insists that there is clear evidence of DNA and the outbreak area.

Mr. Witoon Lienchamroon, Secretary-General of BioThai Foundation, said before explaining to the subcommittee considering the study of causes and solutions, including the impact of importing black-chinned tilapia, in the case that CPF is preparing to file a lawsuit for revealing the outbreak of black-chinned tilapia that today is a good opportunity for the subcommittee to invite BioThai to provide information because the area of ??the committee is an area where both the private sector and civil society or the public should have the opportunity to find the truth of this matter. And if the private sector does not come to explain themselves, they may miss this opportunity. The issue that the private sector is suing BioThai or may not sue at this time but has announced tha
t they will take legal action is a good opportunity because all the good evidence shows that the center of the outbreak of black-chinned tilapia comes from the area around a farm and this farm is part of what caused the outbreak. It is good that this information will be brought to court and we will see other evidence that BioThai will present in the future.

So far, there is no evidence to confirm that there are no fish farms. And in sending fish samples to the Department of Fisheries, today the documents that BioThai has prepared, the committee may not have seen this information and the committee may not have focused on that issue. It is a very important matter that BioThai will point out about the DNA report and new information, which will have to be discussed with the committee on how to use the large amount of information that BioThai has, and there are many people who know about what happened at the farm. But the mechanism for the state and the media to access that information is something that will have
to be discussed in today’s meeting.

Mr. Witoon also mentioned an important issue that the committee has not seen, which is the DNA testing to find the outbreak route by the Department of Fisheries in 2022. Many parts point to the same source. If you look closely, the researchers clearly stated that the outbreak that occurred was not caused by importation. Including the clear outbreak report, which has not yet been published by the Department of Fisheries, which clearly states where the epicenter of the outbreak is. Importantly, the information that BioThai has is more than the images that have been posted. We must use channels and be careful. The company will decide how to access and manage the information.

Mr. Witoon continued that BioThai would like to invite the private sector to participate, but does not wish to meet directly, which is a practice that we have been doing for almost 30 years of the organization’s establishment. However, in a public forum or a forum organized by an agency that wants to see
k information, we would like to call on Charoen Pokphand, which has a list of people involved in this project, to provide information so that we will know more details than the executives about what happened at the farm.
