Phumtham-Anutin’ monitor the water situation and assistance for flood victims in Thoeng District, Chiang Rai Province, revealing that the flood situation is decreasing. They emphasized that the government is mobilizing assistance from all sides, aiming to solve the problem for the people as quickly as possible.
Ms. Traisuree Traisaranakul, Secretary to the Minister of Interior, said that at 10.00 a.m., Mr. Phumtham Vejjayachai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Commerce, acting on behalf of the Prime Minister, and Mr. Anutin Charnvirakul, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, went to the area to inspect the water situation and water management, as well as provide assistance to people affected by the flood in the area of ????Thoeng District, Chiang Rai Province.
Overall water situation: Mr. Phumtham, Mr. Anutin and the group listened to a situation briefing at the Thoeng District Office from Mr. Prasert Jitplicheep, Deputy Governor of Chiang Rai Province, and Mr. Warayut Khombun, Thoeng Distri
ct Chief, as Mr. Putthipong Sirimat, Governor of Chiang Rai Province, was not in the area. The Deputy Prime Ministers then traveled to visit, give encouragement and distribute relief bags to the flood victims at the Thoeng District Bus Station.
Mr. Phumtham said that the visit was due to the government’s concern for the people in the area because the water was coming fast and strong. He was informed that one person in the area had already died. Ms. Paethongtarn Shinawatra, the Prime Minister, was also concerned about the people, but due to the law, she was still unable to perform her duties. She ordered her acting representative to help take care of the people who were suffering as quickly as possible. It is good that the floodwaters have now receded. Normally, the water in Chiang Rai flows into the Mekong River, but the Mekong River level is high now, so there is water waiting to be drained.
Now, all relevant sectors are working together to take care of the people. The Ministry of Transport is taking care
of whether there are any obstructions to the waterways. But overall, the situation has eased. It just takes time to drain the water. I would like to tell the deputy governor that this incident should be summarized as a lesson so that we can prepare for the future because we are still in the monsoon season.
‘The province must prepare for the work, talk to the deputy prime minister and the minister of the interior. They have ordered all departments to set up a center to take care of the incident to the fullest. But it is unfortunate that today I came and did not find the governor. I am not sure what the engagement is. In a situation like this, we should come down to see and be with the people so that they can understand the problem and find ways to alleviate it for our brothers and sisters. But even though the governor is not there, I would like the heads of various government departments to go to the area to take care of it. As for equipment, the minister of the interior has already given the order. As for fo
od, it comes from many sources. There are several royal kitchen trucks coming to take care of the food. The private sector has also come in. Volunteer units have come to help pack things. It is a time to rely on the grace of His Majesty the King, who has come to help the people. Today, the permanent secretary of the Ministry of Commerce has come to the area to see and coordinate what is still lacking to help,’ said Mr. Phumtham.
Mr. Anutin said that the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, Ministry of Interior, provided disaster relief machinery, such as backhoes, to dig up and level the soil that had collapsed onto the road so that villagers could travel. He also asked the governor to hurry back to Chiang Rai because the people of Chiang Rai are waiting.
After completing their mission in Chiang Rai Province, the delegation of Mr. Phumtham and Mr. Anutin traveled to Nan Province to monitor the flood situation in Muang Nan District and Phu Phiang District.-
