Bangkok Restores Traffic Lanes on Sukhumvit Road 39 Amid Public Concerns.

Bangkok: Bangkok restores 2 traffic lanes on Sukhumvit Road 39 (Soi Promjit) and expands pedestrian and bicycle lanes. Mr. Chadchart Sittipunt, Governor of Bangkok, visited the area to inspect the improvement of bicycle and pedestrian lanes in Soi Promjit, Sukhumvit 39, Watthana District. He said that there were complaints from the public because yesterday, there was a traffic adjustment in Soi Promjit. There were flexible poles installed to separate bicycle and pedestrian lanes, causing one lane to be lost. This project is a collaboration with international experts and embassies from countries with a lot of cyclists and walkers. The preparation for the project has been underway for several months. The purpose is to promote Bangkok to have more bicycle and walking use.

According to Thai News Agency, Sukhumvit Soi 39 has a problem because there are a lot of cars passing through. When it was blocked off to make a 1-lane bicycle lane, people complained a lot that it caused traffic jams. So there was a meeting t
o discuss improvements by removing the erect poles and marking the traffic lanes so that there are 2 lanes and adjusting the left lane to have a pedestrian and bicycle path.

‘I would like to apologize to the public for any inconvenience caused to travel, but I believe that if Bangkok does not do anything to change, it will remain the same forever. Even if there are some wrong changes, some right changes, it is an experience. If there are mistakes, we will improve and make them better. Everyone means well and wants to see Bangkok as a livable city, with roads shared for cars, bicycles, and people walking well,’ said Governor Chadchart.
