SATHING PHRA: A violent confrontation at a temple in Songkhla Province has left a 36-year-old woman seriously injured after her aunt allegedly attacked her with a knife during a funeral. The incident has sparked demands from the victim’s family for thorough legal action.

According to Thai News Agency, the attack occurred late last night in Tambon Sathing Phra, Amphoe Sathing Phra. The victim, Ms. Wilaiporn, was attacked by her aunt, Ms. Sawi, aged 68, who reportedly used a palm knife to slit her niece’s throat before fleeing the scene on a motorcycle. Eyewitnesses at the temple described Ms. Sawi as initially walking around the area before suddenly grabbing Ms. Wilaiporn’s head and attacking her.

The situation escalated when Ms. Sawi, reportedly in a dispute over unpaid debts, turned herself in to authorities at Satun Police Station. She confessed to the crime, citing an argument over money as the motive. Ms. Sawi faces charges of attempted murder and is set to be detained on Monday.

Family members of Ms.
Wilaiporn have expressed concerns about the possibility of leniency and have urged the police to pursue the case with full diligence. They fear the presence of local leaders during Ms. Sawi’s surrender could influence the judicial process, including the possibility of bail being granted.
