The ASEAN Parliamentary Assembly welcomed Thailand’s proposal to include the drug problem in its statement, leading to a joint solution, emphasizing that the legislative and executive branches must work together.

Mr. Van Muhammad Noor Matha, President of the National Assembly and President of the House of Representatives, as the leader of the delegation, revealed after attending the 44th and 45th ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly meetings in the Lao People’s Democratic Republic that the meeting concluded the statement of the President of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly, which included proposals from representatives of the 10 member countries, plus Timor-Leste, who was an observer. Thailand emphasized cooperation in solving the drug problem, which was included in the statement. The meeting acknowledged that the drug problem is an ASEAN problem that must be jointly solved, with connections from precursors, production, distribution, and the need to take care of people addicted to drugs. As for the deta
ils of the implementation, it is a matter that must be discussed to lead to further implementation. This statement is considered a statement of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly, which Ms. Soonthone Sayachak, Vice President of the Lao National Assembly, representing the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly, read out to the ASEAN leaders who attended the meeting today, to inform them of how the legislature views the problems of ASEAN’s future development, which many issues are consistent and many issues complement each other. He affirmed that the legislature must work together with the executive to solve the problems and lead ASEAN forward steadily.

The President of the Parliament also said that in addition, the Assembly of the Experts also agreed that the problems that need to be jointly resolved are the political conflicts that exist in this region and other regions, but affect people from all sectors, whether in terms of economy or society, including the view that environmental problems must be solved t
ogether, especially problems caused by natural disasters and man-made disasters that affect the world’s climate and sustainable development, such as dust/forest fires, which are issues that need to be resolved. If they occur in one country, they will affect other regions. They also agreed that ASEAN must join forces and have our own position, but at the same time work together with the United Nations and other regions.
