Arresting a wicked woman who tricked an abbot into buying insurance

Miscellaneous

Crime Suppression Division arrested a wicked woman who deceived the abbot into buying critical illness insurance. The abbot bought insurance worth over 100,000 baht for his mother. Later, it was discovered that his mother had cancer, which led to the incident because she could not claim the insurance.

The Crime Suppression Division police arrested Ms. Wanna, 34, after she fled to a rented house with no house number in Tambon Tha Chang, Amphoe Bang Klam, Songkhla Province. She was wanted on an arrest warrant issued by the Thung Song Provincial Court for the crime of ‘fraud.’ This case occurred on April 3, 2023. Ms. Wanna identified herself as a life insurance agent and went to meet the abbot of a temple in Tambon Tha Yang, Amphoe Thung Yai, Nakhon Si Thammarat Province. She deceived the abbot into selling her life insurance for critical illnesses. The insurance was paid annually for 5 years at 115,560 baht per year, which would cover her up to the age of 90. The abbot agreed to insure her mother by paying Ms
. Wanna 115,560 baht in cash. While signing the contract, the abbot recorded an audio clip of the cash payment. However, it was later discovered that the abbot’s mother had cancer. Therefore, she filed an insurance claim, but the company said that they did not find any insurance policy. Later, on June 11, 2023, the head of the insurance company office where Ms. Wanna was a representative came to meet the abbot and informed him that Ms. Wanna had ceased to be a representative of the insurance company on April 17, 2023.

After investigation, it was found that Ms. Wanna had already collected money from the abbot but did not send it to the company, so the company did not know about it and could not issue the insurance policy. The abbot therefore filed a complaint at Thung Yai Police Station to take legal action against Ms. Wanna.

Ms. Wanna confessed that she had sold insurance to the abbot while she was still an insurance agent, but she had used the abbot’s insurance premiums for personal use and had not paid th
em to the company. She had always accepted the fact that one day the police would track her down and arrest her, and she had accepted the consequences of her actions and the crime she had committed. She was then taken to the Thung Yai Police Station in Nakhon Si Thammarat, the area where the incident occurred, to proceed with legal action.
