“Anutin” urges facilitation of request for mud cleaning fee

Anutin” urges provinces and localities to facilitate people to apply for mud cleaning money, 10,000 baht per house, to provide assistance as quickly as possible.

Ms. Traisuree Traisaranakul, spokesperson for the Ministry of Interior, said that after Mr. Anutin Charnvirakul, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, reported to the Cabinet on October 8, 2024, that the Comptroller General’s Department had approved the governors of the areas that had declared emergency disaster relief zones to use government reserve funds to pay for the cost of cleaning up mud and debris from houses of people affected by floods at a rate of 10,000 baht per house, in order for the assistance to reach the people in need quickly, Mr. Anutin urged the provinces where floods occurred and where mud covered houses, local administrative organizations (LAOs) in those provinces to provide advice and facilitate the people in various steps, from informing the people of their rights, submitting applications, going to the area to surv
ey, and holding meetings to consider and approve quickly.

‘Because the spending of government reserve funds is under the approval authority of the provincial governor, there are steps that people must submit a request for assistance from the local administrative organization. There must be a survey of the area, collect information to present to the committee for disaster relief at the district and provincial levels. Mr. Anutin therefore urged officials at every step to give importance, consider the matter of helping the people urgent, and help take care of the assistance to reach the people as quickly as possible,’ said Ms. Traisulee.

Ms. Traisulee said that the payment of 10,000 baht per house to help with the cost of cleaning up the mud and soil covering people’s homes, which is separate from the 9,000 baht per household for flood victims in the rainy season of 2024, is a case where Mr. Anutin has given a policy to the agencies of the Ministry of Interior to consider finding ways to help the victims as mu
ch as possible because from the many and continuous visits to the area by the executives of the Ministry of Interior, they have seen the hardships of the victims. In some areas, such as Chiang Rai and Chiang Mai provinces, mud and debris have flowed into people’s homes, making it impossible to live normally. It is necessary to clean up with a lot of labor and tools. Receiving some support for expenses from the government through the government reserve fund, which is under the authority of the provincial governor, will be another force that helps ease the burden and alleviate the suffering of the victims so that they can return to their normal lives faster.

For the initial criteria, 10,000 baht will be paid to help with the expenses of cleaning up mud and debris in the residential areas owned by disaster victims, as necessary and appropriate. However, this will not include completely damaged residences or residences where government agencies or other agencies have already provided assistance in cleaning up un
til the victims can return to their normal lives. In cases where agencies have provided assistance in cleaning up some areas, but the homeowners still need to hire workers and purchase additional cleaning equipment before they can return to their normal residences, the committee that will actually survey the area will consider each case.
