Napinthorn’, Deputy Minister of Commerce, led a team to visit the production area of ??’Tha Khoi Pomelo, Phichit’, a GI product, to expand marketing channels and generate income for the community.

Mr.

Napinthorn Srisanpang, Deputy Minister of Commerce, along with the Department of Intellectual Property, revealed that yesterday (18 October), they visited the production area of ??Tha Khoi Pomelo, a GI product of Phichit, to push for the expansion of marketing channels and support the development of packaging so that Tha Khoi Pomelo, Phichit, is known both domestically and internationally.

‘The Ministry of Commerce has a policy to drive the community economy with Geographic Indications (GI), creating added value, controlling quality standards, and expanding marketing channels. GI products are linked to production areas and local wisdom, resulting in products with unique identities. Therefore, GI products are important products that drive the government’s Soft Power policy,’ said Mr. Napinthon.

There are curr
ently 212 GI registered products nationwide, generating over 76 billion baht in value for the country’s economy per year, creating jobs and generating income for producers and entrepreneurs in the community.

During this visit to Phichit Province, we talked to groups of farmers and entrepreneurs, such as Lung Lae Som-O Garden, which has been growing pomelos for over 20 years. He emphasized that the pomelo market still has a high growth potential because it is a fruit rich in vitamin C, potassium, and antioxidants, and is in high demand in the health market. Tha Khoi pomelos from Phichit Province have a sweet and sour taste, light pink flesh, are juicy, and have few or no seeds. Due to the geographical characteristics of being a lowland area with the Yom River, Nan River, and Phichit River flowing through, the soil in the area is fertile and suitable for growing pomelos. Currently, Tha Khoi pomelos from Phichit Province generate income for farmers in the province of over 36 billion baht, and more than 42,000 t
ons of products are released to the market per year.

?In this regard, the Department of Intellectual Property has been assigned to promote marketing both offline and online to increase trading opportunities for producers and traders of Ta Khoi pomelo in Phichit.
