An 18-year-old boy played a prank by buying a firecracker ball, extracting gunpowder, and packing it into a PVC pipe, hoping to have fun during the Buddhist Lent. However, the firecracker accidentally exploded and severed his hand, seriously injuring him.
The incident occurred in the early evening. Officers were notified that an 18-year-old man had been injured in a firecracker explosion, so they went to inspect the scene and provided assistance to take him to the hospital. The man was identified as Mr. Kasem Sak, 18 years old, who had sustained a severed left wrist and multiple lacerations to his right wrist and arm. He is in serious condition.
From the inspection of the scene, which was a single-story house in Village No. 10, Ban Kut Ngong, Phon Kha Subdistrict, Mueang District, Si Sa Ket Province, the grandmother of the injured person was found in shock and took the news team to see the damage from the force of the explosion, including scattered belongings inside the house, pieces of flesh, bones of the
injured person’s hand and fingers that were crushed by the force of the explosion, scattered all over the room.
In addition, equipment for making firecracker balls was found, with more than 40 gunpowder already removed and many more still unremoved. The injured man’s girlfriend revealed that before the incident, she was sitting in the bedroom, while the injured man was sitting outside on a wooden bench, making firecracker bombs called C4. She took out many firecracker balls and put the gunpowder in the balls together in a PVC pipe. However, during the process, there was not enough gunpowder in the firecracker balls, so she used a saw to cut the PVC pipes. During that time, the pipes became hot and sparks were generated, causing them to explode. The reason her boyfriend made the C4 firecrackers or bombs was because he wanted to use them to light for fun with his friends during the Ok Phansa festival. He had already made them once last year, but this incident did not happen.
