“Yam Thamolphan” continues to sleep in prison after missing bail in gambling website case

Miscellaneous

‘Yam Thamonphan’, a historical drama actress, continues to sleep in prison after missing bail. The Appeal Court ruled that it was a conspiracy, causing significant damages, affecting the economy and society as a whole. If bail is granted, she is afraid of fleeing.

On July 20, 2024, at the Criminal Court on Ratchadaphisek Road, the court read the order requesting temporary release from the Court of Appeals, Case No. 669/2023, of Ms. Thamonphan, aged 41, or Yam, a drama actress, the 7th defendant in the case of organizing online gambling, in which the Criminal Court had sentenced her to 5 years in prison on July 18.

After the Criminal Court made its decision, Ms. Thamonphan, the 7th defendant, filed a petition with a cash bail of 250,000 baht for temporary release. However, the Criminal Court considered and saw fit to send the case to the Court of Appeal for consideration.

The Court of Appeal considered the gravity of the charges and the circumstances of the case and found that the actions of the 7th defend
ant were a gang-like operation, with a great deal of damages that affected the economy and society as a whole. The Court of First Instance had sentenced the 7th defendant to 5 years’ imprisonment. If he were to be granted bail, there was good reason to believe that the 7th defendant would abscond. Therefore, the 7th defendant’s bail was not permitted during the appeal. The petition was dismissed.

Reporters reported that Yam Thamolphan still has to be detained at the Central Women’s Correctional Institution, according to the Criminal Court’s ruling. As for Mr. Phumipat, her husband, he did not apply for temporary release in any way. Therefore, he must be detained according to the Criminal Court’s ruling for a total of 20 years at the prison.
