Trat, Trat is flooded! Heavy rain for several days in a row. Recently, the Trat governor declared a disaster zone in 3 sub-districts after heavy flooding. Some areas are submerged 1 meter deep. It is expected that the situation will return to normal in 2-3 days.

Reporters reported that the flood situation in Trat City in the Rak Khlong Bang Phra Community, Wat Bot Community, Kitsawat Community, and the Trat Irrigation Project released water from the Sara Si Siat Reservoir because the water in the reservoir was about to overflow. The situation has now begun to improve.

Yesterday (July 22), people returned to their homes to inspect their properties and assess the damage, while the release of water from the Trat Irrigation Project continued to open the floodgates of the Sara Siat Reservoir, releasing water continuously in the reservoir to lower the water level as much as possible after accumulated rainfall of more than 400 mm for more than 3 days and the rising sea level may cause the water level to not decre
ase.

Reporters reported that on July 21, water flooded into houses in 3 sub-districts: Bang Phra Sub-district in Trat Municipality, Nong Samet Sub-district, and Wang Krachae Sub-district, causing more than 1,000 houses to be flooded to a depth of 1.00-1.20 meters, especially Kittiwitthaya School and the Sueb Saeng Sap Village Community, Wat Bot Community, Kitsawat Community, including Rak Khlong Bang Phra Community, which is near Khlong Bang Phra, and is currently still flooded.

From the incident, Mr. Nattapong Songwanchit, Governor of Trat, has issued an announcement of the disaster area and emergency disaster, causing damage to the property of the people, in order for the local administrative organizations and the Trat Provincial Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office to use the budget to help the people. The announcement is for the areas of Ban Lang Community, Kitsawat Community, Phokphrai Community, Wat Bot Community, Rak Khlong Bang Phra Community, and Tha Ruea Chang Community in Trat Municipality,
effective from July 21, 2024.

Mr. Natthaphong said that after traveling to inspect the flood situation and entering the area of ??Kittiwitthaya School, which is the most affected area, and the area of ??the Kitsawat community, where he saw people suffering, he had to declare a disaster area. As for the water discharge from the reservoir, it is the responsibility of the Trat Irrigation Department.

Mr. Kittipong Yulaor, Mayor of Nong Samet Subdistrict Municipality, revealed that the area of ??Nong Samet Subdistrict, especially Village No. 4, which has the most affected residents in Soi Sueb Saeng Sap, is located next to the Trat Irrigation Project near the water canal, causing the flooding of houses to be as high as 1.00-1.20 meters. There are more than 500 households affected out of 4,000 households. If there is no rain in the next 2 days, the situation will improve and return to normal in 3 days.

DDPM warns 44 provinces to beware of flash floods 24-31 July.

While the Department of Disaster Prevention and
Mitigation (DDPM) has warned 44 provinces in the North, Northeast, Central and South to monitor flash floods, forest runoff and river overflows from 24-31 July.

Mr. Chaiwat Junthiraphong, Director-General of the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM), revealed that the Office of National Water Resources (ONWR) has monitored weather forecasts and found that the monsoon trough is passing through the North, Myanmar, Laos, and Vietnam, entering a low-pressure cell in southern China, causing Thailand to continue to have heavy to very heavy rain in some areas of the North, Northeast, Central, and South.

For example, the North has 11 provinces: Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Phayao, Phrae, Phitsanulok; the Northeast has 7 provinces: Loei, Nong Khai, Bueng Kan, Nakhon Phanom, Ubon Ratchathani; the South has 5 provinces: Ranong, Phang Nga, Phuket, Trang, and Satun; the Central region has 11 provinces: Kanchanaburi, Nakhon Nayok, Prachinburi, Sa Kaeo, etc.
