“People’s Party” still holding off on sending “First Deputy Speaker of the House” to compete for the position tomorrow, “Pakornwut” asks to discuss at the MP meeting this afternoon, confirms there will be no change in the quota of the chairman of the committee after the Democrat Party joins the government.

Mr. Pakornwut Udompipatsakul, MP for the Prachachon Party and Chief Whip of the Opposition, spoke about the quota of the standing committee chairmen in proportion to the Democrat Party, whether there will be any changes after joining the government, saying that the committee is a quota of political parties, not based on which party it belongs to. It is based on the proportion of MPs of each party. Therefore, the quota does not change; it is a matter for the House to manage.

As for the chairman of the Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation Committee (MHESI), which is the quota of the Thai Sang Thai Party, it has now been changed. The chairman is Dr. Vayo Atsawarungruang, a party-list MP from t
he Prachachon Party. In addition, Mr. Nattapong Ruangpanyawut has resigned from the chairman of the Budget Monitoring Committee because he has many duties and is therefore inconvenient to be the chairman. Mr. Surachet Praweenwongwut, a party-list MP from the Prachachon Party, has become the chairman instead.

When asked about the selection of the first deputy speaker of the House of Representatives, has the People’s Party decided whether to nominate him or not? Mr. Pakornwut said that in the afternoon there will be a meeting of MPs, where they will discuss and reach a final conclusion. However, he has not yet received clarity from the government whip about what the process will be.

As for whether the People’s Party will propose a name, Mr. Pakornwut stated that he must wait for the conclusion from the meeting, but confirmed that if it is proposed, it will be proposed in the name of the People’s Party. If other parties in the opposition want to propose, that is their right.

When asked if there would be a pro
blem with the position of opposition leader, Mr. Pakornwut said that he would have to wait for the meeting of 315 MPs.
