DE Committee coordinates with mobile networks to not cut off phone signals, and to quickly add backup batteries to signal towers to help Chiang Rai residents contact for flood relief.

The House of Representatives Committee on Communications, Telecommunications and Digital Economy and Society, led by Mr. Siam Hatthasongkhro, Chairman of the Committee, Ms. Piyarat Tiyapairat, Secretary of the Committee, Mr. Worawong Vorapanya, Spokesperson of the Committee, Mr. Anusorn Iamsaard, Committee Member and Advisor to the Committee, and Mr. Karunphon Tiansuwan, Committee Member and Advisor to the Committee.

Mr. Anusorn said that regarding the flood situation in Chiang Rai Province, the committee has discussed and prepared to help people in both the central and regional areas. The central dimension will have various mobile phone companies and organizations help people in the disaster areas. They have coordinated with mobile phone companies and government agencies to help with phone and internet signals. However, the
situation that happened in Chiang Rai Province is an event that no one wants to happen during the transition of governments. We have Chiang Rai MPs coordinating with the areas, especially in the city, to see the direction of water flow affecting them. And how will some areas that have already been flooded be restored and rehabilitated?

Therefore, communication must be available 24 hours a day by using mobile vehicles to distribute signals, including helping with both prepaid and monthly service fees. The days of use must be extended and the signal cuts must be suspended.

Ms. Piyarat Tiyapairat, Chiang Rai MP for the Pheu Thai Party and secretary of the committee, spoke about the problems in the flooded areas of Chiang Rai Province, saying that the water level in Mae Sai District has been rising steadily, the Kok River has risen, and in Muang District, it covers a fairly large area. The airport has had its electricity cut off and cannot provide services. The Chiang Rai Club’s shelter is flooded and flood vic
tims have been evacuated to the second floor of the building.

The communications department has coordinated with the NBTC operators to prepare fast moving vehicles because there have been power outages in some areas. However, signal towers require power that requires backup batteries. We would like the public to be assured that signal towers or mobile phone signals will be available 24 hours a day. In the area, both government and private sectors are present at the work site. We have rushed to evacuate many people who are stranded in shelters. As for compensation, we are discussing the next level.

Mr. Siam said that we are concerned and have been coordinating since last night. We have concluded that all operators have arrived at the area and have fixed the signal so that it can be used. We have to wait and see if there will be any additional problems that we will be able to fix.
