The government spokesperson team announced the progress of the government’s work in tourism, finding that 2024 will be lively, indicating that the visa-free policy will help push the number of tourists to be close to pre-COVID levels, giving it an A++ grade, expecting this year’s income to increase by 650 billion baht, while the suppression of drugs has been successful, confirming that the destruction of evidence was not smuggled.

Mr. Chai Wachirong, spokesman for the Prime Minister’s Office, and Ms. Kanika Unjit, deputy spokesman for the Prime Minister’s Office, announced the progress of the government’s work on the program “Highlight Thai Khu Fa”.

Mr. Chai said that this is the first time the government spokesperson team has announced an update on the government’s policies. They intend to announce every Friday to communicate the government’s performance in the past year, which is approaching its first anniversary, to the public. Today, there will be 2 issues: drug suppression and tourism. Tourism is cons
idered one of the 8 most important IGNITE THAILAND areas, an important engine that will play a role in stimulating the economy and revitalizing Thailand. If we compare tourism from January until now, Thai and foreign tourists from many countries have traveled to Thailand. When compared to last year’s statistics, there has been an increase of approximately 17 million people, generating over 200 billion baht in income compared to last year. This shows that the measures of the Tourism Authority of Thailand, both promoting tourism activities in each area, including facilitating measures from the visa-free policy and not having to fill out the TM.6 form, have helped stimulate Thai tourism to recover more than before 2019 when the COVID-19 outbreak occurred.

“If we were to give a grade, we would say A++ (A++) which can stimulate the economy better. And the tourism trend in the second half of 2024 is expected to increase by 24.7 million tourists and tourism revenue is expected to be no less than 650 billion baht. A
nd it is believed that from various tourism measures, 2025 will be the golden year for Thai tourism,” said the government spokesman.

Mr. Chai said that the announcement of the government’s performance will be about progress on agriculture.

Ms. Kanika announced the progress in solving the drug problem, saying that the Prime Minister has given importance to drug issues by setting it as an urgent and national agenda that the government wants to suppress completely. Although there are voices that drugs are still plentiful and will not disappear, all agencies, including the Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Public Health, Ministry of Justice, military, police, etc., have integrated their work seriously and set indicators in 25 provinces. There is a framework for working and evaluating results for 3 months from June 1 to August 31. The indicators of each province’s work will be considered from the results, such as the number of cases successfully solved, the number of people receiving treatment and rehabilitation
, etc. Initially, Roi Et and Tak provinces are white pilot provinces that can provide treatment, rehabilitation, create jobs, and return drug addicts to society. At the same time, the government emphasizes the safety of officials. They have provided equipment for officials and compensation as an incentive and encouragement for drug officials to work.

Ms. Kanika said that this year, more than 13,000 cases have been prosecuted, more than in 2023, and assets from both small and large-scale cases can be seized in 2024, including Tuhao Tun Minluck, worth more than 96 million baht. She confirmed that the government is serious and will seize everything regardless of whose child it is. If the actions indicated in the past 2 months lead to better suppression, treatment, and rehabilitation, the operation will be expanded to 52 provinces. As for the seized drug evidence, the government has ordered the drugs to be destroyed 5 times. If more drugs are seized, they will be destroyed more frequently, once a month, to ease
the public’s concerns about where the drugs go after they are seized. She confirmed that they have not gone anywhere because they will be completely destroyed and she is confident that they were not smuggled out anywhere.
