Royal Irrigation Department prepares to cope with water during the rainy season

Government House, “Kanika” reveals that the government, through the Royal Irrigation Department, is preparing to cope with water during the rainy season, confirming that reservoirs nationwide can still handle a large amount of water. Water pumps and machinery are ready in case of flooding.

Ms. Kanika Ounjit, Deputy Government Spokesperson, said that the continuous rain in many provinces has caused many parties to be concerned about the flooding problem that may occur in the near future. The Royal Irrigation Department, under the supervision of the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives, which is under the responsibility of Lt. Col. Thammanat Prompow, Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives, and Mr. Atthakorn Sirilathayakorn, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives, has prepared to manage water during the rainy season, when the amount of water will increase.

Ms. Kanika continued that the overall water situation in Thailand at present, large and medium-sized reservoirs in Thailand have a total cap
acity of 76,337,000,000 cubic meters, of which currently there is approximately 39,279,000,000 cubic meters of water, accounting for 51%. It can still receive up to 37,058,000,000 cubic meters of water, accounting for almost 50%. In addition, the Royal Irrigation Department is also preparing to allocate resources that must be tools, whether water pumps, various machinery, excavators or tractors, which there are 5,382 units of tools nationwide, divided into 1,289 water pumps, 617 water pushers and 2,476 other supporting machines. Therefore, it is confident that it is ready to manage water.

‘The work of the Minister of Agriculture has been coordinating with the local people to create understanding with the people, especially the farmers in the area, because water management must listen to the opinions of the people. Lt. Col. Thammanat has ordered the Royal Irrigation Department officials to not have a day off during this period because it is a risky period for flash floods. Therefore, they must keep a close wa
tch in order to solve the problems for the people in a timely manner,’ said Ms. Kanika.
